This year, it is no revelation that there has been an escalation of cynicism towards politicians, brands, media, and it’s not just here in the U.K., it’s global. This growing uncertainty and lack of trust in our world is something that has resonated with me. By no means, this blog is not going to be a melancholy piece about the ‘terrible state we are in’, quite the contrary, as we have an abundance of those already circulating. I oppose any unconstructive pessimism and it is my role as a business owner, directive and leader to ensure that I instil plenty of trust, belief, passion, and certainty into our team and clients.
drp is a trusted brand, and it is vital to maintain this trust during times of uncertainty. A reasonable amount of companies are taking a step back from risks, sticking to their comfort zones, and sitting tight until the storm of “Brexit-Trump Uncertainty” has passed. However, we feel that being a business actively operating in an opposite manner to this worried, conservative approach is paramount to success now and in the future. Our theory is that: if you remain to function as you would have done prior to the various trials of 2016, and continually invest in your people and your business, taking no steps back, your company will in turn be seen as forward-thinking, reliable, trustworthy, and panic and worry will dissipate.
Here’s my reflection on our past year and what we have been doing as a company to push forward and continue with certainty, not uncertainty!
Workspaces can ensure the ignition of great ideas, strong teamwork and a happy workforce. It’s essential to us that we have the best facilities to achieve the upmost for our clients too. In September, we made a huge investment into comprehensive and innovative facilities at our drp Head Office. Our 4.2 acre site on the Ikon Trading Estate, in the Midlands, is the largest corporate creative production facility of its kind in the U.K.
In reality, we have doubled our office spaces and capacity across the entire business. The bespoke facilities in the Midlands now include 8 fully-equipped edit suites, 3 state-of-the-art studios, digital innovation labs, a dedicated print facility, 3D projection cinema, construction centre, contemporary design suite, and fresh new additions, ‘The Park’ and Studio 3.
There has been a significant expansion at drp in all divisions of the company during the past two years, and this growth will continue into 2017. We now have even more room to grow with our office expansion as well. It will always be essential to us to employ people who have the ‘anything is possible’ mind-set inherent in their work ethos, which drp upholds. Our team consists of a total of 180 people, and we are proud to be investing in the development of these people too. We have invested over £200K worth of training and education in our people so far.

Over the past few years, we’ve recognised the need not only to maintain our excellent creative and technical delivery of comms projects, but also to provide analysis, insight and justification for the solutions we put forward. With our own dedicated insight and innovation team, we’re able to harness our experience working with some of the world’s best-known brands, as well as our team’s insight into the latest and greatest technology available, and put it to good use for our clients.
The drpBIGtalk was the latest in a series of thought leadership (drptalk) events we have been running with clients that allow us to share this insight, as well as our thoughts on how the industry will develop over the coming years.
With website hacking and computer viruses as an everyday threat to businesses, it is essential to be completely watertight with information security. We feel, as a business, it is our responsibility to not only protect our data, but those of our clients, too. During this year, we were awarded with ISO27001:2015, which is the international standard for information security management.
ISO 27001 is one of the most difficult accreditations to gain and we passed it first time. Accreditation demonstrates a clear commitment in terms of Information Security Management to third parties, clients, and stakeholders. The ISO standards provide a significant competitive advantage, and complement our ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), and the ISO 20121 (Sustainability Management within Events).
Last year, in association with our 35th anniversary, we completed 35 CSR projects. In 2016, we have continued to support local charities with events, fundraising and more. I myself completed the Prudential 100 Cycle! However, the drpteam have done everything from a 13.1 mile half-marathon through Central London for Meeting Needs, produced the Strictly Worcestershire event for local cancer charities, as well as volunteered in a homeless shelter to name a few.
To conclude… One thing that is for sure is drp is not taking a step back. We have gained 16 new clients this year, including: EE, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Herbert Smith Freehills, and others.
We’ve also won 32 awards this year, which includes winning five awards at EVCOM Live, Employer of the Year at Worcestershire Apprenticeship Awards, IT and Telecoms Event of the Year with EE, and ‘Best Consumer Website’ at the DigiAwards with Worcester Bosch.
As we near the end of our 36th year – a year full of exciting new projects and clients, collaborations, and development across the team and business – we are proud to have a forecasted turnover of 16.8M, and this is through investing, trusting and continuing ‘business as usual’!
