Pack Your Bags: Top 2017 Destinations for the MICE Industry

As part of the venuepot team, I’m always helping our clients find the best locations and venues for their events. Here’s my top 5 for this year. CAUTION – this blog may worsen your January blues and this could result in booking a holiday.

Croatia – Dubrovnik

Alongside being a popular destination for young backpacking travellers and Game of Thrones fans, Croatia is also a beautiful backdrop for meetings and conferences.

For a sensational experience, 5 minutes walk from Dubrovnik Old Town you can travel by cable car up to Mount Srđ. Here you can enjoy stunning views of the city and islands, whilst dining in a panoramic restaurant and bar.

Host your conference nearby at the amphitheatre located at the top of Mount Srđ, a truly original setting, which can accommodate up to 120 guests.

To make the day even more memorable, see the scenery and history of Dubrovnik by Buggy Safari, an off-road experience lasting roughly one hour.

You’ll see astonishing 360° views of Dubrovnik, its wildlife, surrounding islands and mountains, as well as ex mine-fields and fortresses. A truly unique way to see the destination.

An equally spectacular “venue” with a twist is the m/s Sea Star Event Ship in the Adriatic Sea. The ship spans over 150 square metres with outstanding views over the famous Croatian Riviera and Islands. Its main hall can accommodate up to 200 people, with an extra gallery and VIP lounge accommodating 150 and 50 people respectively.

Spain – Barcelona

Barcelona has always been a high demand location, due to climate, number of large venues , and convenient flight connections.

This vibrant city is especially popular with companies not only for its weather, but also its nature, great food, and lively night-life.

The city is of course home to the renowned CCIB, its International Conference Centre, an event space that can host up to 15,000 guests, with countless hotels also within very close proximity.

For something more unusual, however…:

Inside Barcelona’s Parc de la Ciutadella – a beautiful park full of greenery, fountains and sculptures – lies a zoo, which holds a unique space, “La Dama del Paraguas” – a glassed room inside the zoo, which can be booked for events.

You can top off the day with a private visit to the zoo for you and your guests, and its only 1.49km from the city centre.

With frequent flights to Barcelona from numerous airports –  how many reasons can you find not to host your clients here? Not many, we bet.

China – Hong Kong

For an incentive, one destination sure to exude luxury and style to your clients is Hong Kong. Rising in the past few years in the modern imagination as a slick, cool and upbeat location, it would be a fresh foray for those high achievers.

For a really inventive day or evening, book a party on-board a double-decker open-top tram! Yes, it really is what it says on the tin!

Experience the sleek modernity of Hong Kong and its antiquity simultaneously with a tram decorated like a 1920s venue. You will have the luxury of exploring the modern world without enduring the hustle and bustle of it.

For an extra touch of surprise, hire entertainment such as magicians or live performers to mingle with you all and keep the energy and laughter flowing.

If you book your trip during Chinese New Year, beginning January 27th, lasting about a fortnight, then there’s all the more to experience!

2017 is the year of the Fire Rooster, and those born in this year are traditionally believed to be trustworthy, punctual and reliable at work. What a way to tie everything together by holding your trip in and around these relevant celebrations!

U.K. – Scottish Highlands

Whilst we all love the thought of jetting off to an amazing location worldwide, your clients may in fact equally appreciate something closer to home, such as a truly relaxed retreat in the Highlands.

Offer guests or colleagues the chance to focus upon business relationships and genuine collaboration, as opposed to the routine “modern” business feel of generic office or event spaces.

Ackergill Tower Hotel, for instance, allows for exclusive use – yes, that’s free reign of a Grade A listed Scottish castle. Hey, they even quote that “anything’s possible” on their website…why wouldn’t we like them here at drp!?

Combine your conference or incentive travel in the Highlands with the many outdoor activities, such as speedboats, archery, shooting, fishing, golf, and much more…
